The Oncam Global IPZoom Two-camera

The Oncam Global IPZoom Two-camera, Advanced-imaging Solution Is Now Generally Available for Security and Liability Markets

Featuring the Oncam IPZoom 360°, 5MP camera, specialised software and companion IP PTZ camera, the security solution increases speed and accuracy of threat verification

ZUG, Switzerland, June 23, 2011 —Oncam Global Group AG has released its Oncam IPZoom advanced imaging solution, which enables delivery of detailed images at greater distances without sacrificing total situational awareness, for general availability worldwide.

Available from Oncam Global Sales and through systems integrators, the IPZoom two-camera system is the latest addition to the technologies that Oncam Global deploys and supports Oncam Global’s critical SATIV approach to providing total security solutions.

Solution components:
The Oncam IPZoom solution includes:

  • one IPZoom 360°, 5-megapixel camera
  • employs sophisticated video analytics and management software
  • is available in indoor conceal-mounting and outdoor/indoor IP67-rated minidome models
  • is compatible with Windows-based video management systems
  •  registered IPZoom software
  •  one companion IP PTZ camera with absolute positioning

With this solution, the Oncam IPZoom camera is a triggering device for the high-resolution IP PTZ camera (to be co-located) and has the processing capability to instantly signal and focus the IP PTZ camera anywhere within the panorama or fisheye views that the IPZoom camera generates.

The end result is a flexible and intelligent security solution for critical infrastructure, commercial enterprises, entertainment venues and other public areas that catches all the action and provides high-resolution detailed images about an area of interest.

The IPZoom solution's user-friendly, customisable viewer allows security personnel to choose from customised or predefined layouts of simultaneous panorama, fisheye and IP PTZ camera views. Feature-rich navigation capabilities enable users to define polygonal regions in the viewer for motion detection, tracking, privacy and auto-exposure.

How it works, in brief:
The IPZoom camera is the controlling camera in an IPZoom scenario. When user-defined suspicious events have been identified by the user—such as unusual behaviour that is characteristic of a typical adversary, objects in places they should not be, objects removed that should be there, or any other changes that could represent threats to an environment—a simple point and click of a mouse on the object or area of interest within the panorama or fisheye view "tells" the IP PTZ camera exactly where to pan, tilt and zoom to capture details. Without compromising overall situational awareness, the IPZoom maintains constant 360° surveillance while the co-located PTZ allows the user to interrogate the event. Once a threat is verified by security personnel, an appropriate measured response can be taken.

Success in the field
Robert Miller, president of integrator/alarm and monitoring company SecureVisionView, explains that by quickly zooming in to interrogate and verify a threat, this system reduces false alarms and speeds up response times. He notes that many law-enforcement agencies now charge companies fees for false alarms that his customers' security systems trigger— "up to $300 per incident," he says. "In some cases, when a location registers too many false alarms, the police will no longer respond. With the IPZoom solution, that won't be a problem."

One of Miller's customers is Jay Forrest, general manager of Wye Heritage in Midland, Ontario, Canada's largest freshwater marina. Forrest reports: "With the capabilities of the IPZoom solution that Bob installed at the marina we can track all activities to reduce our liabilities, monitor our fuel dock that is a kilometer away and provide security from vandalism and theft for hundreds of vessels." The IPZoom installation, he notes, "also eliminated eight stationary cameras."

At another of Miller’s customer locations, secure-data processing center Commport Communications International, President Dave Ralph says that he also uses the Oncam IPZoom solution to demonstrate the heightened level of security to his customers worldwide, including The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and tool distributor Ackland-Grainger, who process hundreds of billions in transactions through Commport’s center.

"When our customers' security auditors visit us to verify that their valuable data are protected not only from a cyberattack, but also from any physical misappropriations," says Ralph, "we use IPZoom to track their progress as they're driving up our street, and zoom in to their licence-plate number, as part of our demonstration to show them the power of this solution."
